Lumension Malware Spyder

The Challenge:

How do you visualize a concrete abstract?

Perplexing isn't it. Spyware, malware and viruses are "real". They have affected nearly every user in the world at some point in their lives. Yet, you can't see them and you can't touch them. So when it comes time to roll out your latest F.U.D. campaign, how do you put a face to the pain-point?

The Solution:

The spider is not an original embodiment of the malware/spyware problem. It's probably the oldest second visual that there is. (The oldest being those computers with a sad face and a thermometer.)

But stock photography of some mechanical spider was not going to cut it. We couldn't run the risk of having one of our competitors running an ad with the exact same imagery, and our ability to pose or animate the spider would be non-existent. To address all of these issues, I created this fully articulate "Sypder". Animated Flash banners for online campaigns, full page print ads, trade show booths... we used it everywhere as part of our integrated campaign.
